What are Software Development communities?
The software development industry is an ever-changing beast. Every year new programming languages emerge, new technologies hit the market, and existing languages and technologies are either left behind or completely re-imagined. It’s easy to get lost in the shuffle when you’re new to the industry — your skills are too outdated to help you land a job, but they’re not modern enough to help you keep one. Software developers are always looking to learn more about their craft, but they don’t always know where to look. This list of communities is dedicated to engineers, software developers, coders, and hackers. Some are online communities dedicated to a particular technology or programming language, and some are general purpose communities or those that help developers early in their career. The communities on this list are an excellent source of inspiration, knowledge-sharing, and networking.

ChatCodeNewbie
CodeNewbie started as a weekly Twitter chat to connect people learning to code by Saron Yitbarek. Since then, it's grown into a supportive, international community of people learning to code. Whether you're in need of early-career mentorship or you've just graduated from bootcamp and you're ready to pass along some wisdom, the CodeNewbie community is your place to champion beginner programmers, get support, and talk about the field of programming. In January 2020, CodeNewbie was acquired by Forem, the open source software company behind DEV — and this very site! Together, both communities have become a large support system for programmers of all levels, offering podcasts, Twitter chats, the annual CodeLand conference, hackathons, a platform for developers to write about their knowledge and experience, and connection with one another. We are so happy to have you as part of the CodeNewbie + Forem family. 💚 Happy coding!7K members

ChatEventsNewsletterJobsDevOps, SRE, & Infrastructure (DSI)
on discord
DevOps, SRE, & Infrastructure, DSI, is an online community that includes anyone with a shared technical interest. The people who make up this community share a wide range of technical-related knowledge and experience in networking, databases, IT, software, security, programming, DevOps, site reliability engineering, infrastructure, systems administration, and much more. We have people here who are freelancers, entrepreneurs, and those who are employed at small companies to large companies such as Google, Facebook, Hashicorp, and Uber. We like to think that the people who work in these roles "keep the lights on". With a community, we are able to share the knowledge with others who have a desire to learn about their specific technical interests or even wanting that next fix to the project they are working on. If you have a passion for technology, this is the place to be. At DSI, our goal is to be the place with a wide range of technical-related topics and to share them with the world. Rather than just learning something and keeping it to yourself, DSI is the place to not only share it but to learn it. We strive to make people successful and to live their dream. We do that by providing information.6K members
