Financial Independence is closely related to the concept of Early Retirement/Retiring Early (RE) - quitting your job/career and pursuing other activities with your time. At its core, FI/RE is about maximizing your savings rate (through less spending and/or higher income) to achieve FI and have the freedom to RE as fast as possible.

Your Money and Your Life is NPR's online community for anyone who wants to start saving, save more, or make better informed investment decisions. To be clear, NPR is not offering individual tax or financial “advice.” For that you should always seek the assistance of professionals. Nor are we endorsing any particular investment, investment strategy, fund, broker or adviser. We’re pulling together key principles from acknowledged experts that you may want to consider while making financial decisions. And please no solicitations within this site.
