You’ve found us! We are a community of Journalists of Color aka JOCs, and this website is for you – the public – to peruse, find out what we’re all about and maybe even join us. We are dedicated to growing and expanding this community, and its conversations and opportunities. We’ve already branched out from Slack to a couple of meetups on the East and West coasts. So stay tuned because we’re just getting started.We founded this group to put Journalists of Color in the same "room" (you know, so you’re not the only one.) And having a Slack team allows us to branch out and create infinite rooms to discuss a variety of topics, collaborate on projects or chat/scheme/vent privately via direct messages or private groups. Hello writers, editors, colleagues, comrades – Don’t you hate when editors use “I don’t know enough writers of color” as an excuse to back up the homogeneity of their publications? We do too. Here’s a fix, brought to you by Durga Chew-Bose, Jazmine Hughes, Vijith Assar, and Buster Bylander. Need someone to cover politics? Here you go. A correspondent in Chicago? We’ve got you covered. We aim to create more visibility for writers of color, ease their access to publications, and build a platform that is both easy for editors to use and accurately represents the writers. The response so far has been overwhelming (thank you!) and we welcome further feedback from both camps, but please realize that this site is run by volunteers and is a work in progress. We still need help fixing mistakes and keeping things running smoothly. Email us if you’re interested in lending a hand, or have suggestions, or just to say hello. If you are hiring, taking pitches, or trying to fill freelance slots, let us know and we’ll retweet you. We also maintain a public Twitter list of all our writers, and we’ve shared the code behind this site on GitHub in case you’d like to set up something similar for a different group or industry. Women Who Draw is an open directory of female* professional illustrators, artists and cartoonists. It was created by two women artists in an effort to increase the visibility of female illustrators, emphasizing female illustrators of color, LGBTQ+, and other minority groups of female illustrators.

BABD exists to provide meaningful community to Black design professionals who want to support each other’s growth and development. We provide this via exclusive access to intimate groups called Squads which are the core BABD experience. Squads are intimate groups of 4-5 members representing a range of experience and design roles. Squad members share their goals, challenges, and intentions, and they commit to helping each other thrive. It’s not about networking and hustle — it’s about growth that unfolds in balanced and focused ways, and creating true friendships within reciprocal community. Each Squad is together for one quarter (three months) and they meet twice-monthly.

Blacks Who Design highlights all of the inspiring Black designers in the industry. We're a Twitter directory and we have a Slack chat as well. The goal is to inspire new designers, encourage people to diversify their feeds, and discover amazing individuals to join your team. With any great creation, there is a sacrifice that needs to be paid and it will be paid by the visitors to the vibe. We want your hearts to flat line. We want your richest deepest expression of who you are and how you see the world because we are hoping for one truly special thing to happen. We are hoping that your words will be read and in some way move someone to action, to feeling, to purpose, or better yet, move you to find your action, your feeling, or your purpose. This site is about a nephew and his uncle who thought it was a great idea to create a site about the thing we love. We use it to tell stories, to help us understand how other people tell their stories, to connect and inspire and at the end of the day, it does something very special. It brings us peace. We can say that we never held on to the words. We let them out in the universe for the universe to answer our calls. And no matter what answer we receive, we still have our faith that we did the right thing. We want the same faith from you. We want you to understand that your words have feelings, that you being part of another poets words has meaning. That we are all here because we are a part of something. The better word to use for it is a "movement." The poets will always stand tall because they understand that alone they can defeat one, two, or three men but with the right words, they can change the world. So we have only one small request of you. Change the world! Join the vibe!

On MUAotC there is no cost threshold, all price points are welcome from drugstore to luxury. We encourage you to shop within your budget while allowing others to do the same!

Product photographers of all skill levels are welcome! If you are posting an image, you need to include some context along with it. Tell us about your process and any challenges. Images without any description will likely be removed. Linking directly to your website or social media will be removed unless it is educational content. Use the pinned "Self Promotion" thread to advertise your services. Anywhere else will be removed. Quality over quantity. Limit your posts to 1 a day.
